May 14th, 2009 was the second anniversary of Binayak Sen's arrest. To mark the occasion and to shame the Indian Government for its continued incarceration of Dr Sen on the flimsiest of charges, several actions took place across India, Europe, and the US. Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Mumbai, London, Edinburgh, Washington D.C., and Cambridge, Massachusetts, among others were sites of spirited protests. Several Op Eds in various prominent newspapers and journals of opinion also excoriated the Indian State for using draconian and arbitrary laws such as the Chattisgarh Special Security Act (CSPSA) and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) to imprison Dr. Sen. |
